The approach
Understanding the backend logic and existing data set was key in informing capabilities in this Dynamic Bundle Creation feature.
The Tenant Admin Portal is a relatively new application for PepsiCo eComm ecosystem of enterprise applications. However, the users are different from other enterprise applications I have lead in design.
Creating or managing a product bundle was non-existent in the Admin Portal. In order to approach this complex feature, speaking to backend engineers for existing logic and data sets was instrumental and supplemental to listening how users in Merchandising and Finance were approaching bundle creation for Gatorade's Team Zone.
What value would this feature deliver?
The Finance team has been utilizing Excel sheets to create Gatorade bundles in a text-only, non-linear process. The Finance team members makes lists and groups of GTINs (a unique global ID that identifies a product in the PepsiCo product catalog). This tedious task can take hours. This Excel sheet is then handed off to Engineers to run the chore on the backend. Not every "dynamic."
The Merchandising team approaches Dynamic Bundles mostly from a marketing perspective. Managing bundles, turning them "live" and "deactivating them." The team members are more concerned with the bundles at a product level, overseeing details, availability, and discount strategy.
Having to create a self-service frontend on the Admin Portal would open a central visibility, and alleviate the tedious efforts and chores for all teams.
